We have come to that time of the year..........
New Years Resolutions. I have a love hate with them. I think it is wonderful to have a time frame to come up with your New Years Resolutions but so often 2 weeks into Jan they are non existent.
So what is going to make this year different?
Goal Setting is extremely important in our lives, our spouses and our children's lives. Without it we do not have direction or a reason to push ourselves to be the "Best Version of our Ourselves." We were not put in this world to be mediocre. We were put here to impact others lives, to be examples to our friends, family, spouse, and children. So often God is missing in that Goal. Our life here is short, and God is not going to ask you how much you weighed, how big your muscles were, how many pushups or pullups you could do, He is not going to ask you what kind of jeans did you where or shoes, or what kind of car did you drive, did you have a vacation home or a nice home? No...
He is going to ask... did you Follow me? Did you lead by EXAMPLE? Did you spend time with me? Did you love me and how? Did you take the time to get to Church that ONE time a week to be with me even though you were tired or had other plans? Did you show gratitude for all that has been given to you good and bad? Did you stand up for me even though others did not or perhaps it just was not cool, or did you just turn your back on me?
We live in a world that is wrapped up in materialism and technology. In this new year of 2013 I encourage you to lay off some of that. Ask yourself... do I REALLY NEED THAT? DOES MY CHILD? Can I turn off my phone for a day and stay off of the computer? Can my kids live without DS's, video games, ipads, itouches, i phones, i pods? I dare you to try to it. And then take that time to spend in silence. Get a journal and write down all the things you are thankful for. All the things that trouble you, encourage your family to do the same. And what can you do to change your life and make it even better. I guarantee you the answers are not on the computer or your phone or at the Mall. They are in the silence of your heart, your church and your quiet time spent with God.
He is the one who has the answers...

Ok Dad is clearly working through me...
SO... during the next several days set your goals.
Make them simple, realistic, attainable, and make yourself accountable for them.

Areas:
1. Spiritual: One thing you can do to increase your prayer life and your families.
2. Relationship: Your spouse should be #1 besides God. Is he? What can you do?
Talk to him about it too. Make it a discussion over a dinner date. DO IT!
3. Kiddos: All a child really wants is to be with you. Turn off the technology ALL OF IT, play a board game together, go for a walk, take your child on a date. YES a date. 1 hour, their choice.
You will not believe the difference it will make.
4. Physical: How can you take better care of yourself! This is not the time to say you are going to loose 20-50 lbs. Short term........... 1 week or even 1 day at a time.
5. Eating/Drinking: One way to improve your diet. Remember REALISTIC!
6. FUN! Pick that one fun thing, perhaps a new hobby? Vacation? 5k, 10k, competition.
Whatever, make it happen this year.

  1. Be sure to pick one person you are pretty tight with to share your goals with and keep you accountable. A close friend is suggested, not a spouse............
